Job Listing: Berkeley All Blues Fall Head Coach Search

The Berkeley All Blues Women’s Rugby Club is currently seeking a Head Fall Coach beginning mid-August through Women’s Premier League Nationals November 7-9, 2014. The ideal candidate is both able and committed to maintaining the club’s history of excellence and building a championship-level team. 
 
The Team 
 
Founded in 1978, the Berkeley All Blues is an elite women’s rugby team. The Club has won a combined total of 16 National Championships in both 15’s and 7’s, and is currently ranked second in the United States following the conclusion of the Fall 2013 Women’s Premier League season. 
 
The All Blues consist of approximately 40 athletes, dedicated to the club and the sport of rugby. The Club welcomes athletes of all levels and current players range from elite to novice in experience. Several players regularly compete on the Women’s National Team and territorial select sides. The emphasis of fall season is to compete at the highest level in the Women’s Premier League with the aim to secure a National Championship. The WPL is composed of the top eight teams in the country, and is structured to provide the highest level of competition in the US. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
 
• Development of overall team and sub-unit strategies 
• Development of athletes in the WPL pool, Providing effective feedback to individuals and the team 
• Plan and execute twice weekly practices 
• Attending all league matches and tournaments (overnight domestic travel is required) 
• Coordinating match selections with team captains 
• Assisting the Exec Board with team management and related efforts 
• Assistance with upholding of club policies set by the club’s Exec Board 
 
Schedule 
 
Practices are held twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Berkeley, California. The Women’s Premier League consists of six league matches and a two---day national championship tournament. The 2014 league schedule is from September 14 through November 9, 2014. Specific match dates are TBD; league match travel will include San Diego (CA), Glendale (CO), and Washington D.C. 
 
Qualifications 
 
A level 200 coaching certificate is required. Previous playing and/or coaching experience is required; specific experience coaching women is preferred. This is a part time position. Compensation includes a stipend. It is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Match travel related expenses will be paid by the club.

Job Listing: Sevens Coaching Position

 

The Team

Founded in 1978, the Berkeley All Blues is one of the elite women’s rugby teams in America. The Club has won a combined total of 16 National Championships in both 15’s and 7’s, including the recent 2013 Club 7s National Championship and 2012 Women’s Premier League National Championship.   The All Blues Rugby 7’s program consists of approximately 40-50 women, dedicated to the club and the sport of rugby. The All Blues welcome athletes of all levels that range from novice to elite. Athletes from the All Blues are consistently chosen to compete on the Women’s National Team and Select Sides, and we currently have two athletes in residence at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. The goal for our 7’s season is to compete at the highest level of rugby 7’s, with the aim to secure a third National 7’s Championship title. In addition we strive to foster the development of collegiate and senior club athletes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of overall team and sub-unit strategies
  • Moderate practice training plans with long-term goals for the season
  • Providing effective feedback to individuals and the team
  • Develop and execute athlete development and improvement plans for individual players
  • Attending all league matches and Nationals (August 9-10; Location TBD)
  • Coordinating match selections with team captains
  • Work with the club’s executive board to execute long term club goals
  • To undertake any other necessary and relevant duties under the direction of the club’s executive board

Qualifications

  • Previous rugby 7’s competition and coaching experience is required; a strong understanding of the game of rugby and the game of 7’s specifically is required
  • A USA Rugby Level 200 coaching certification or higher is required
  • Specific experience coaching women is preferred
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with athletes and the executive board. Also with other coaches and club personnel, and be able to present a highly professional image when representing the Berkeley All Blues WRFC.
  • Must be able to establish positive working relationships with all club members
  • Must be able to balance the commitment to excellence on the field with a sense of fun and enjoyment that is conveyed to others.
  • Must be able to organize him/her-self and others effectively.
  • Must be an effective team member with sufficient flexibility and willingness to take on roles outside his/her normal functional responsibility when required.
  • Compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience

Berkeley All Blues Division II Coach Search

The Berkeley All Blues Women’s Rugby Club is currently seeking a Division II Head Coach beginning late January 2014 with the option to continue to serve as an Assistant Coach for the Women’s Premier League fall season. The ideal candidate is both able and committed to maintaining the club’s history of excellence and building a championship-level team.


The Team
Founded in 1978, the Berkeley All Blues are one of the country’s top women’s rugby teams. The Club has won a combined total of 16 National Championships in both 15’s and 7’s rugby and is currently ranked second in the United States following the conclusion of the Fall 2013 Women’s Premier League season.


The All Blues consist of approximately 40 women, dedicated to the club and the sport of rugby. The Club welcomes athletes of all levels and current players range from elite to novice in experience. The emphasis of the Club’s inaugural Division II season is to foster player development and promote team cohesion. Overarching goals are to recruit new players, enhance players’ technical skills, and promote veteran player leadership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Developing overall team and sub-unit strategies
  • Preparing and conducting practices
  • Attending all matches, home and away
  • Making match selections
  • Providing effective feedback to individuals and the team
  • Managing any support coaching staff, including coordinating the efforts of any Assistant and/or Positional Coaches

Schedule
Practices are held twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Berkeley, California. The Division II league match schedule is from February 1st to June 1st. Specific dates for match games are currently being set by the league. The spring season also consists of tournaments that the Club may participate in depending on the Division Two match schedule as well as player interest and availability.


Qualifications
Previous playing and/or coaching experience is required; specific experience coaching women is preferred but not necessary. Coach must at minimum have a USA Rugby Level 200 certification. Compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Travel expenses will be paid by the club.
